National Women’s Convening
By Adrienne Schaffer, Esq. (Colonel US Army Retired)
As America approaches its 250th anniversary, the nation finds itself at a crossroads, reflecting on the values that shaped its past and imagining the leadership that will guide its future. In this moment of national reflection, one community stands uniquely positioned to illuminate the path forward: women shaped by service.

These women, daughters of military families, veterans, military spouses, and leaders forged in the rhythms of mobility and responsibility, carry with them a lived understanding of resilience, adaptability, and civic duty. Their stories are not only compelling; they are instructive. They reveal what it means to lead with empathy, to navigate change with grace, and to build community wherever life takes them.
This is why the Military Child World Expo is launching the National Women’s Convening: From Service to Becoming, a landmark gathering designed to elevate the voices of women whose lives have been shaped by service and to inspire the next generation of girls rising behind them.
A Leadership Pipeline Hidden in Plain Sight
Military‑connected girls grow up in a world defined by transition. They learn early how to adapt, how to read a room, how to build friendships across cultures, and how to carry responsibility beyond their years. These experiences form a powerful, and often overlooked, leadership pipeline.
They become women who lead with:
Global awareness
Emotional intelligence
Cultural fluency
Civic responsibility
Courage in uncertainty
These are not soft skills. They are national assets.
A Convening Designed for Impact
The National Women’s Convening brings together distinguished women leaders from across the country, senior military leaders, former Cabinet officials, educators, CEOs, cultural influencers, and award‑winning journalists. It is a curated, invitation‑based leadership circle designed to spark a national conversation about identity, service, and generational continuity.
But it is also open to the women and girls who need this moment most: teens, young women, mothers, educators, and community leaders.
This is where representation meets recognition. Where lived experience becomes leadership insight. Where America’s daughters see themselves reflected in the nation’s future.
Why This Matters in America’s 250th Year
Anniversaries are more than dates, they are opportunities. America's 250 is a chance to honor the past while shaping the next 250 years.
Women shaped by service embody the values the nation needs now:
Resilience in uncertainty
Strength in transition
Leadership rooted in community
A global perspective shaped by lived experience
Their stories are not just personal narratives; they are national contributions.
A Moment for Mothers and Daughters
For mothers raising military‑connected girls, this convening offers something rare: a space where their daughters’ experiences are not only understood but celebrated. A space where girls can see women who once stood exactly where they stand now, in new schools, new towns, new cultures, and who grew into leaders shaping the nation.
A Moment for Senior Leaders
For senior military and civilian leaders, this convening is a chance to contribute to a national dialogue that honors service, elevates women’s leadership, and strengthens the civic fabric of the country.
A Moment for the Nation
This is not simply a panel. It is a national moment of recognition. A moment to honor the women shaped by service, and the future they are building.
