WORKSHOPS & BREAKOUT LABS

Where we speak our stories, honor our journeys, and shape what we carry forward.

The Workshops & Breakout Labs are identity-centered reflection spaces built for youth ages 12–22, military-connected and civilian. Each session is guided by trained youth facilitators and cultural stewards, with adult grounding mentors present for support.

These are not lectures.
These are spaces of belonging.

How To Participate

Youth are encouraged to choose the workshops that align with where they are in their story.

  • No one is placed.

  • No one is evaluated.

  • No one is asked to perform resilience.

Youth move with autonomy, choice, and dignity.

Workshop Tracks

1 / Roots & Routes

Identity • Place • Culture • Memory

Where have you lived?
What do you carry with you?
What does home feel like, and where does it live now?

In this circle, youth create:

  • Identity Maps

  • Memory Tapestries

  • “Where I Am From” Poetic Cards

  • Cultural Symbol Cards

We are made of many places, and all of them belong.

2 / THE WEIGHT WE CARRY

Caregiving • Responsibility • Emotional Labor

A space for:

  • Siblings who support the home

  • Youth with caregiving roles

  • Children of injured, recovering, or single parents

  • Those who hold emotional weight quietly

This space honors:

  • Quiet leadership

  • Care as strength

  • The unseen labor youth perform

We recognize care as leadership, not burden.

This session links to TCCSH (Turn Care Into Credit) service hours recognition.

3 / HOW WE STAY WELL

Mental & Emotional Steadiness • Nervous System Grounding • Self-Compassion

In this lab, youth practice:

  • Grounding and breathing techniques

  • What to do when overwhelmed

  • Asking for support without apology

  • Naming emotions without shame

  • Protecting joy

This is not therapy.
This is collective remembering of how to stay whole.

Strength is not silence. Strength is staying present.

4 / Future After Here

Purpose • Next Steps • Paths Forward

This is not:

  • Career pressure

  • College competition

  • “Where do you see yourself in 10 years?”

This is:

  • What do I value?

  • What kind of human do I want to be?

  • What story am I carrying into adulthood?

Youth choose pathways into:

  • Service

  • Trade & skill careers

  • College

  • Entrepreneurship

  • Art & creative futures

  • Care & teaching fields

  • Exploratory year choices

The future is not chosen by others, it is authored from within.

5 / The Real Cost of Resilience

Food • Money • Transition • Survival • Community Support

A conversation rooted in reality, not performance.

Youth discuss:

  • Food insecurity

  • Working to contribute at home

  • Budget stress during PCS cycles

  • When “making it work” becomes the norm

Session outcome:

  • Resource map

  • Support web

  • Community micro-solidarity commitments

No one survives alone, we rise because we rise together.

Youth may:

  • Sit in silence

  • Journal

  • Build creative expression pieces

  • Speak if they choose

  • Rest if they need

Belonging does not require participation.
Presence is enough.
